    STAR WARS
    Prologue

Turmoil engulfs the Galaxy as the Clone Wars erupt. Far from the action, however, on the hidden world of Mandalore, a team of heroes will gather...

Wes asked me to gamemaster this first adventure since I have several years of experience as a gamemaster.

This thread is for in-character posts only. Out-of-character posts should be posted in the character sign-up thread or handled via private messages. Whenever your hero decides to take a course of action that has a potential for failure, describe what he wants to do but leave the action unresolved. I will then use d% (percent dice) at Invisible Castle and send you the roll, the required percentile, and whether you succeeded or failed via PM.

The next few posts will just set the scene then I'll move the action along.

When posting as GM, I will post in cyan; when posting as my character, I will post in default colors.

The scene opens in a seedy spaceport cantina on Mandalore. You may now take a moment to describe your character and what (s)he is currently doing...

The ten-year-old street rat Sade Brel sits calmly surveying the bar scene from a private booth, where he sips a juma juice. His violet-grey eyes coolly evaluate the customers, keeping an eye out both for trouble and for potential marks. Sade appears mostly Human, but his ears are just slightly pointed and a subtle line of purplish dots faintly form a V on his brow, though they are invisible without close inspection.

Sade sits back to watch the crowd.

An elder Mandalorian enters the cantina, followed closely by his private security guard, Lirc Etiol. Lirc is about 6 feet tall with dark brown hair and a rough face, caused by his years of hardship. He wears modified Tusken gear, upgraded with more technology to aid him in new environments and against technological opponents. Lirc eyes the entire room over, noting which cantina patrons are currently armed. He guides his client to a booth on the far wall that is unoccupied.

A few moments later, a mysterious figure walked up to the table and sat down. The deal had begun. The elder Mandalorian swapped his good for the mysterious figure's money and the latter got up and walked away. Looking at the money he had received, the Mandalorian took a portion of it and gave it to Lirc. Nodding his appreciation, Lirc got up and let his client out. "Our contract is now dissolved" the Mandalorian said. And with that he walked out. Lirc just walked over to the bar and waited to see if any new jobs would come to him...

A Mandalorian in grey armor with red and gold markings enters, and sits at the bar with his helmet still on. Several horn-like shapes protrude from the front and sides of the helmet. They are all stained with various colors of blood. He quietly sits, facing away from the bartender, watching the crowd from behind his T-slit visor. His right hand rests near one of his blasters (he is armed with a few different types), and his left hand rests on the bar. After a long look around the cantina, he turns back to the bar and removes his helmet, setting it in front of him. His brown skin is scarred and burnt, and his black hair hangs in short, thick, knotted dreadlocks. He motions to the bartender, who approaches warily, and holds out a few credit chips. "Give me two black ales," he says. The drinks are served and as he slowly sips at one of them, he watches the condensation running down the side of the other glass, untouched--waiting.

The tall and skinny Cerean named Se’ethor Ray had already been in the cantina for a while now. Ray sat in a corner booth. He liked sitting in the corner so as not to draw attention to his irregularly shaped head which he hid with a special Cerean hood and because of his particular purpose at the cantina. After his official business was completed Ray sat and waited while sipping on ale. Without even thinking he stroked his grey beard while waiting for someone to come and join him.

As the cantina's patrons go about their usual business, an unusual being enters the cantina, and all eyes instantly turn towards her. She is not intimidating, being short and slight of stature. Nevertheless, her presence is commanding. The woman who enters is shrouded in a heavy black robe, but her face, though shadowed, is not concealed and reveals an attractive humanoid woman with beautiful blue skin and eerie glowing red eyes.

The newcomer is alone, but she walks boldly to the bar and orders a drink in Sy Bisti, speaking with a staccato accent. The drink comes and the woman sits down at a table and looks over a datapad intently. Slowly, most of the patrons return to business as usual.

Shortly after the woman sits down, two Gamorreans enter the room, armed with triple barrel blaster cannons. One blast from each brings down the bouncers, another sends the barkeep into hiding. They are moving for the alien woman. Most of the patrons rush for cover.

    What do you do?

(You may include your character's reactions to the woman's entrance as well as to the combat situation. I recommend separating the two, for example with ellipsis or asterisks. Remember that attacks have a chance at failure and must be resolved with rolls.)

As the alien woman enters, Sade is one of the first to notice her, and from the first sight he is entranced, unable to take his eyes of her. His eyes follow her to the bar and then to the table.

    * * *
As the Gamorreans enter, Sade finally averts his gaze from the beautiful newcomer. Shortly after the blasts that brought down the bouncers and sent the barkeep into hiding, Sade draws a knife and throws it at the one Gamorrean, all the while drawing his blaster.

The difficulty to hit the Gamorreans is 60%.

Sade hits one of the Gamorreans with his knife, but the Gamorrean, though wounded, is still standing.

Lirc notices the woman as she comes in, but as soon as he sees her eyes, images begin flying through his head and he had to look away. There was something about her beyond the eyes that disturbed him...

    * * *

When the Gamorreans came into the cantina and began firing at the bouncers, Lirc backed even farther into the shadows of the room. Until he found reason to involve himself in the troubles of others or trouble decided to involve him, he would not allow himself to be dragged into a potentially fatal situation...

As soon as the woman enters, Ka'den immediately takes notice. "A chiss?" he thinks. "Out here?" He replaces his helmet, paying special attention to his scanners. Eying the woman in his viewscreen, who has sat down two stools away from him, he slides his empty glass towards the bartender. The other glass still sits, a pool of condensation collected around its base. "Maybe another time, vod," he says to himself. A blip on the helmet's scanner warns Ka'den, and his hand is already on his blaster before the bouncers hit the floor. Blaster drawn, he leaps behind the bar for cover and fires at the wounded Gamorrean, still keeping an eye on the woman from across the bar.

Lirc fails to evade the notice of the Gamorreans, and they direct several blasts at him. Roll. They miss, but they damage the table severely.

Ka'den, however, successfully brings down the wounded Gamorrean. Roll. One is still standing.

Ray sees the women walk in and wondering if she would join him looking for some “under the radar” transport off planet. When she didn’t come over he looked back to his drink till his eyes were again drawn to the door as two Gamorreans came in.

When the scuffle started Ray got up from the his table in the corner his hand already gripping his heavy blaster not knowing if he would be a bystander or a participant in the scuffle.

The remaining Gamorrean, seeing his pal dead and not expecting resistance, begins blasting indiscriminately into the crowd, bringing down several relatively innocent bystanders. Se'ethor Ray's arm is grazed, though the wound isn't serious. Lirc narrowly dodges having his leg taken off. Only by rolling aside is Sade not pulverized. Ka'den takes a minor hit to the leg. The barkeep was thoroughly killed.

Lirc hated being dragged into business that wasn't his own - especially when he wasn't getting paid for it. Taking advantage of the second Gamorrean's mild incapacitation, he quickly charged into the fray, pulling out his modified gaffi stick, and swung the club at the head of the green beast. He followed up by stabbing at its stomach with the other end of the gaffi.

Lirc's first attack goes wide (roll) as the wounded Gamorrean accidentally staggers out of the way. The second swing, however, catches the Gamorrean solidly in the stomach (roll), wounding him further and causing severe bleeding.

(OOC: The difficulty to hit the Gamorrean is now 85%.)
(OOC2: I realized I had forgotten to explain how the rolling worked. The rolls work as percentiles. The first number rolled is the the tens digit (where 10=0) and the second digit is the ones digit. A 10+0=100, not 00. The goal is to roll lower than the target number. Sorry for not explaining that earlier.)

The first shot goes wide, shattering one of the glasses on the bar (roll), but the second hits the Gamorrean firmly in the chest and brought him down (roll).

The alien woman taps each of you on the shoulder and says in her staccato accent, "Quickly! There will be more! Follow me!"

She ducks out of the cantina and leads you into a series of catacombs beneath the city. She turns on a fusion lantern once you are all inside and the door is shut. She leads down the long, twisting halls until you come to what seems to be a rest stop.

"My name is Syndic Sabay'iish'acsipli," the alien says, throwing back her hood. "I understand that outsiders have difficulty with our language, so you may call me Yiisha. We will rest here for short time, then continue on. If you will accompany me further, I have a proposition to make to you."

As you finally have a chance to rest, you assess the alien woman. She is very beautiful, with a petite, slender frame, but she is no doubt stronger than she appears. Her loose blue-black hair hangs about her shoulders. Her glowing red eyes--eerie at first--are hooded by epicanthic folds. She is alert and thoughtful, decidedly withdrawn, making attempts to socialize with others and resisting all attempts to draw her into conversation.

The rest is short and Yiisha leads you further into the underground tunnels, at last coming to a great round room, stretching both up and down beyond your sight. A great wind comes from beneath. Nearby you see a small mechanical elevator, a tight fit for five. Nevertheless she leads you onto it and manipulates the controls to send you plummeting downward. It stops suddenly; the elevator was going to fast for you to count the floors.

You seem to have reached the bottom, for you step out into the center, which was just bottomless pit from the floor above. She then leads you into a small side room with a table laid out. She motions for you to sit down. She then serves you a strong smelling beverage which you don't recognize. She then sits down herself and takes a sip from her cup.

"My proposition is this," Yiisha says, her staccato accent making her speech sound almost like a chant. "I am willing to pay a sizable sum in the currency of your choice to anyone willing to accompany me on an expedition. Destination, goal, and expected threats are all classified, but the reward will be well worth it, I promise you. Does this interest you?"

(OOC: As always, feel free to include reactions to earlier occurrences as well in your post.)

Sades cheeks flush bright pink when the alien woman touches him, and he follows her willingly.

At the rest stop, Sade withdraws into a quiet corner and watches the beautiful alien who calls herself Yiisha. He wishes he could pronounce her full name, but he decides it's better to use a less preferred name than to make a complete idiot of himself in front of her.

Sade sniffs the beverage. It doesn't smell good, but when he sees Yiisha drink it, he takes a small sip. It tastes disgusting to him, but he does his best to act like he likes it.

"I'll do it," Sade says after hearing Yiisha's proposal.

Lirc is highly disturbed by the mere fact that these Gamorreans attacked him specifically, unprovoked. However, experience has taught him that where there are a few enemies, more will be on the way shortly. Thus, when the woman motions for Lirc to come with her, he isn't so sure he trusts her, but at the same time he knows he can't stay there.

As the woman gives out the drinks, Lirc takes one whiff of his and dumps it into a grate. He would rather trust his Tusken suit to provide him with the fluids he needs. Who cares if this action offends the woman... courtesy means nothing if you die in the act.

When he heard the words "sizeable sum of currency," Lirc's ears perked up and stopped his previously plotting to ditch this group. He agreed to this Yiisha's offer and waited to hear the next steps. Just another job. Looking at the others in the group, the smuggler didn't look hardened enough, and the kid looked like he would slow the group down. The woman mildly intrigued him, and the Mandalorian looked like another man of the same mental and physical fiber as himself. Lirc waited...

Ray is disgruntled that he was shot by one of the Gamorreans and knew that he shouldn’t stay there if any more showed up. Thus, when the woman motions for Ray to come, he had already come to the conclusion that she knew a way out that he didn’t and going out the front door might lead to other Gamorreans and thus not an option. So, he followed the woman.

As Ray was handed a drink he tactfully smelled it then pretended to take a sip, he then proceeded to dump the liquid out as soon as no one was watching. Seconds later Ray watched as the Tusken dumped his drink down a grate with no care in the universe that everyone was watching. This act brought a smile to Ray’s face as he realized that he wasn’t the only one who had some doubts about this strange woman…even if their means of dealing with this emotion was different.

After the woman told the group about her proposal, Ray was on board even though he still didn’t trust anyone in the group. Right before the woman had shown up Ray had met a customer on a potential job but was turned down because his ship couldn’t haul all of the customers goods in his smuggling cargo hold. He needed the money and the woman sounded like there was going to be plenty to go around if this job went right. Looking at the others in the group he thought “this might work…this woman has the knowledge of something very profitable…I have the brilliant mind and tactical skill to pull any plan off…the Tusken and Mandalorian are the muscle if we get into trouble…but what about this kid?” Ray’s mind stopped thinking about how the kid was going to help in situations and turned back to observing everyone and gathering useful information on each in the group by the way they were acting.

"Fierfek, I must be getting slow," Ka'den thinks as he tears a piece of cloth from the clothing of one of the Gamorreans and wraps it around the injured part of his leg, between the plates of armor. Just then he feels a soft touch on his shoulder. It's the strange woman. She beckons him, along with the rest of the patrons who had drawn arms on the Gamorreans, to follow her. "I know this game," thinks Ka'den. "She just singled out the fighters from the rest of the crowd." Looking at the Tusken walking beside him, he wonders if that were necessary. "Perhaps she has a different agenda? Either way, it sounds like a job to me..."

Later, when the woman offers them drinks, Ka'den looks at the small glass he has been offered. It is clearly some form of alcohol, but he cannot fathom what. Ka'den notices one of his companions discretely pouring out his drink when he thinks no one is watching. The Tusken simply splashes his across the floor with a scowl. Ka'den grins behind his visor. He likes this Tusken. "It was probably the ale that slowed me down," he thinks. "And I don't trust anyone who serves drinks after her own assassination attempt." Handing back the drink, he touches two fingers to his helmet. "Sorry, ma'am," he says sarcastically, "But I still need to fly out of here sober."

After hearing the proposal, he agrees to lend his help to the odd, mismatched band of adventurers.

"I thank you for your willingness," Yiisha says. "I have a shuttle waiting."

She leads you to a shuttle of clearly alien design. Consisting of smooth lines and curves, it is strangely geometric compared to the designs of the Republic. She leads you up the boarding ramp, where you see a pair of black-clad alien guards, of the same species as Yiisha. In the cockpit you can just catch a glimpse of the pilot. Any of you that might know how to pilot could not hope to figure out the strange alien controls, so you are grateful that Yiisha has her own.

"There are two guest quarters, each with two beds, one on starboard and one on port," Yiisha says. "You may split them as you see fit. I will let you know when we reach our destination."

She then walks into the cockpit to check on the progress there.

Entering the starboard cabin, Ka'den inspects the room in cold calculation. "Feels like a cell," he says aloud, tapping on the walls, feeling for seams. "Seems secure," he says, then smiles at the pun. After satisfying himself that there is no danger, Ka'den pulls out a hand-held communicator and taps out a quick message on it. "LEFT CANTINA EARLY. AM ALRIGHT, BUT HAVE BEEN OTHERWISE ENGAGED. PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS ONLY." He sends the message, then sits down on the bunk against the furthest wall, and begins disassembling and cleaning the blaster that he used earlier in the cantina. He looks up from his work to see his bunk-mate enter the room...

(OOC: I'm not sure if Ka'den sending a message complicates anything that was going to happen in the narration, but if it does just have the message get blocked or whatever you need to do--I'm just adding to the character's story.)
